Critique
Sometimes I think that the whole web “community” is way too nice for its own good. Everytime anyone asks for a critique of their current site, there are one of two responses: “Looks good”; or “Did you try it in this particular browser, because is doesn’t look right.”
Where’s the critique in this? Why does no one on the web have anything at all critical to say about anyone’s design. I have never seen any say something like “The design style that you’re using doesn’t suit the subject matter that you’re addressing.” I’m just a little tired of all the overly positive backscratching that goes on everyday in all these forums. Anyone who’s been to art school knows the value of negative constructive criticism. Even if it hurts a little at the time, it generally is beneficial, and the artist/ designer learns to think critically about their work.
Maybe that’s the problem. Since there’s so much information on the web, there’s no mechanism to filter out the crap in people’s minds. I think that people on the web really need to develop their critical thinking skills toward the work that’s going out there. Standards compliance and browser issues just aren’t enough.
