Attack of the Pretentious Morons
Chris and I went to see Star Wars yesterday at the cheap-o theater. If you got rid of the bad acting, the horrendous dialog writing, and the overtly racist characters, it was only half-bad. The sets and effects were quite good; definitely eye candy, but the acting by the preteen who played Anakin and by Natalie Portman—good lord. I could act better than that.
This was after trying to watch Waking Life on video. Notice that I say “trying.” It was the most pretentious, self-important piece of crap that I’ve ever seen. Ooh, let me indulge my inner stoner by wading through Philosophy 101. The blurb on the cover was right—it was “astounding” and “one of a kind,” but not in a good way. What a waste of 3 bucks and 20 minutes.
