Skate Buddies
Skateboarding creates a certain camaraderie that I had forgotten about. There’s no pretension—nobody cares what you do for a living. All that matters is that you’re there, skating, having fun, pulling some cool stuff (or not).
It seems like this new park is getting a lot of people out who haven’t skated in years, like me. Maybe that’s partially what creates the cool atmosphere. All these 30-ish to 40-ish guys who are kinda freaked out by being back on their four-wheeled toys after so long don’t want to admit that they are freaked out. It’s an unstated bond between all of us.
Anyway, it’s been feeling really good to be out there. Even if I’m not blazing as hard as I feel like I am (which I most definitely am not), it doesn’t matter because those other guys make it seem like I am, and hopefully I make them feel like it, too.
