Beautiful Science
Science’s 10 Most Beautiful Experiments—full of experiments I did in high school physics: inclined planes, prisms, double-slit light interference… Only a couple are from the 20th century.
It seems like elegant transparency is no longer the goal of science as it becomes more and more specialized and esoteric. The way that contemporary science shapes its understanding of the natural world is directly antithetical to the way that most Americans choose to see the world, an oversimplified USA Today surface reading. Of course, there’s no elegance or real transparency in that understanding, so I suppose that the way that these experiments function is completely outside popular (lack of) thought.
