No Sucker, This One
Nike is now making skate shoes. While the site’s really well done—when are Nike sites not?—I’m not at all convinced by their feeble attempts to win the kids over.
Maybe because I’m old and cynical?
There’s a little section called “Push Innovation” that’s pretty much Nike talking at you, trying to convince skaters that they’re not a big corporate monolith—You would expect something corny from such a BIG company
. Yes, I would, and yes, it is corny, no matter how you package it up. Nike is still Nike and I hope that the kids these days will still recognize the importance of supporting the little companies. I can’t wait until they try making decks and trucks…
Oh, and by the way, I doubt that Nike skate shoes would have done much for my knees. Now is “some day” for me, and the shoes ain’t what did it.
