Vice Presidential Debate

So here’s the thing: Dick Cheney is so clearly a corrupt power-hungry liar that it doesn’t really matter whether or not he out-debated John Edwards or not.

The sneer of utter contempt glued to Dick’s face during the first half of the debate betrayed his true qualities. His pompous, casual demeanor, hunched over the table as if directing a Haliburton meeting seemed designed to reinforce a hardline image. His whole debate strategy seemed based on brute force. He was the very image of corrupt corporate power in bed with government.

Edwards successfully pointed out Dick’s lies and contempt from the beginning, basically calling G-dub and Dick liars in his first few sentences, and continuing with a list of programs that Dick voted against: Head Start, Meals on Wheels, Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Dick had no real response; what could he say to the truth? Furthermore, Dick’s lobbying to open up Iranian and Libyan markets to Haliburton nailed him as a power-hungry corporate opportunist of the worst sort.

The relationship between G-dub’s deer-in-the-headlights performance and Dick’s hardline rhetoric, coupled with Dick’s “recommendation” to invade Iraq solidifies in my mind who is the “brains” behind this administration’s policies.
