Guilty of Nested Tables
I’ve been pretty lucky for the last few years in terms of the quality of html with which I’ve been working, in large part because I’ve written most of it myself. But for one of the projects that I’ve been wrapping up for DBD, I didn’t get to write the page templates. The site’s written in Cold Fusion and we were subcontracting that part out to a previous employee. Moreover, it was right around the time when my status was in limbo.
I’ve been doing final design tweaks to the site, which basically means that I had to get into the templates and stylesheets to make refinements. I’ve forgotten how horrible it is to work with old-school nested tables and how overly-complicated and bloated the “markup” is.
Frankly, I don’t have enough time to really fix it—I’m swamped with extra work. I hate to leave a project with such bloated, ugly code, but it’s not really my job any more. The layout works, the site looks good, the templates are valid; somehow I still feel kind of guilty though.
