Enameling and the Drawn Image

A "post-conference" workshop after the 10th Biennial Conference of the Enamelist Society, which takes place September 7-14, 2005 at Arrowmont School of Crafts, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Workshop Description

Enjoy the loose and refreshing immediacy of drawing with enamel. By preparing multiple pieces of metal, like pages in a sketchbook, we'll draw directly into liquid and powder enamel on copper, and take advantage of pre-enameled steel and the ease of drawing the ceramic pencils and pastels. We will refine our sketches by sifting color in successive layers over markers, oil, and stencils. The end result? Vibrant enamels that exude a brisk style and a confident line.

Interested in more in-depth study of the medium?

Katy teaches regularly at the Cleveland Institute of Art, the only US school to offer enameling as a major; and Kent State University, where students can enamel large-scale.
